Jeuveau®
Jeuveau® is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to improve the appearance of moderate-to-severe wrinkles and fine lines. Jeuveau is the brand name for a neurotoxin or botulinum toxin, like Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport. With Jeuveau, you can reduce the eleven lines between the eyebrows (glabella). Like other neuromodulators, Jeuveau temporarily blocks nerve signals in treated areas. Jeuveau is formulated with the highest-quality ingredients, with its active ingredient prabotulinumtoxinA (a purified botulinum toxin type A).
How Jeuveau Works
Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is an FDA-approved prescription neuromodulator used to temporarily improve the look of moderate-to-severe lines and wrinkles in the upper third of the face in adults. When injected by a certified and trained professional, Jeuveau temporarily blocks nerve signals in the injected muscles, inhibiting the release of acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter that controls muscle contractions. Jeuveau injections effectively reduce muscle activity in the treated area, smoothing dynamic lines and wrinkles commonly developed on the upper third of the face due to smiling, squinting, frowning, or other repetitive muscular movements.
Jeuveau Treatment Areas
Jeuveau is approved for use to improve moderate-to-severe glabellar lines or frown lines in adults temporarily. Glabellar lines, sometimes called “11 lines,” are vertical wrinkles that develop between the eyebrows due to aging and repetitive muscular contractions in the area over time. In addition, Jeuveau is used to treat fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead, crow’s feet, lower facial frown lines (DAOs), gummy smile, masseter, and platysmal bands.
How is the treatment performed?
Getting Jeuveau injections takes only a few minutes and no anesthesia is required. Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes seven to ten days to take full effect and it is best to avoid alcohol at least one week prior to treatment. Aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications should be stopped two weeks before treatment as well in order to reduce bruising.
Jeuveau Results & Duration
In most cases, patients typically begin to see the effects of Jeuveau within a few days following their treatment. The full results of your treatment become more noticeable about two weeks following injections. The duration of the desired effects can vary from patient to patient. In general, results last for approximately 2‐4 months following injections. Continued treatments are recommended to maintain the desired outcome of your cosmetic treatment.
What Are the Side Effects?
Temporary bruising is the most common side effect. There is also a risk of headaches but this as well is transient in nature, usually resolving within 2-3 days. A small percentage of patients may develop eyelid drooping or a dropping of the brow which are both temporary and usually resolve within weeks. To lessen any risks, an upright position should be maintained for 4 hours following the treatments and you should refrain from exercise until the following day as well as avoid any irritating products applied directly to the injection sites.
